Why do we develop wrinkles?

Wrinkles happen to us all as part of the natural ageing process; we produce less collagen and elastin, weakening the skin’s structure and reducing its firmness.

Age also accounts for the skin’s tendency to become thinner and drier, as over time it loses some fat from its deeper layers. But as well as the passage of time, the environment plays a part too, whether it’s smoking, pollution, dehydration or, commonest of all, too much sun. (And even if you’re careful about all these, the genes we inherit also dictate how, and at what speed, our skin wrinkles.)

How do the anti-wrinkle injections work?

The treatment’s effective because it’s precise, focused only on targeted muscles and so avoiding impact on surrounding tissues. Our practitioners aim to soften, rather than completely freeze, muscle animations, which allows for continued expression and a more natural look. (Smoother skin is the result of the muscles beneath it being relaxed; this softens and sometimes even removes wrinkles and fine lines.)

What happens after the treatment?

When you first come in we automatically book you a complimentary follow-up for two weeks after the treatment, which gives us a chance to see how things are progressing, and you the opportunity to ask any questions you might have. The treatment works best when repeated; the effects of each typically last from three to six months.

To sum up

This treatment will:

  • Focus on precise areas for a natural, expressive look

  • Relax underlying muscles, softening the skin above, reducing and sometimes removing wrinkles and fine lines

  • Work for three to six months and, ideally, form part of ongoing treatment.
